A Guide to the C Vitamin

March 23rd, 2010

The c vitamin has got to be the most widely known vitamin these days. It is not surprising because the body needs c vitamin for over 300 functions. In fact, the c vitamin has been proved to help protect against heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses. Without the c vitamin the body would not be able to heal itself either. This is because the c vitamin is vital for the formation of collagen. Whenever a person has a cut or an injury it is the collagen that helps repair the damage and without sufficient c vitamin this would be almost impossible. Collagen has a multitude of functions in the body, including keeping the organs in place, and it would not be able to do this without sufficient c vitamin.

The c vitamin is also an antioxidant for the body and helps other vitamins and minerals to be absorbed better. Folic acid and iron, for example, need the c vitamin to maximise their usefulness. The more c vitamin that the body has, the better its defence against colds and other common ailments and the c vitamin may not prevent a person catching a virus but it does help speed up the recovery process.

There is c vitamin in almost every fruit and vegetable but some have far higher c vitamin content than others. Cranberries and melons have high c vitamin content. In fact, tropical fruits have the highest c vitamin amounts of all fruit. Hot peppers are amongst the richest sources of the c vitamin when it comes to vegetables. The hotter the pepper, the higher its c vitamin content is. Unfortunately, the c vitamin is water soluble so many vegetables lose their effectiveness as a c vitamin provider if they are boiled for a long time. Steaming or quick stir frying vegetables ensures that more of their c vitamin content is retained. The recommended daily amount of the c vitamin is easily obtained from eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day if they are consumed raw or cooked quickly.

C vitamin supplements are extremely useful to ensure that people obtain sufficient c vitamin. However, with a balanced diet the amount of c vitamin the body receives is likely to be sufficient. However, if a person begins feeling tired or lethargic then a c vitamin supplement will help overcome this. There is no danger of having too much c vitamin as the body simply excretes the excess.

System Of A Down - Science

Aging research is a very popular area of study as there are many different factors and areas that are being investigated. With the developments in science and medicine the life span has been dramatically elongated and researchers are looking to further expand life as well as treat the many chronic diseases that occur as an individual ages. Some diseases that have a lot of research include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s as well as stopping the signs of aging.

Aging research is also a very big field in cosmetics and many beauty companies spend a lot of money investigate aging in the skin. This includes how the skin ages as well as ways to stop these gaining issues as there are several causes to the aging symptoms found in skin.

Understanding and discovering the causes of Alzheimer’s has a lot of research and funding. The actual causes of Alzheimer sis unknown though certain mind exercises have been found to offset when Alzheimer’s occurs. There is a specific coalition called ACT-AD that looks into finding the answers to Alzheimer’s as fast as possible, and they fast track a lot of research. There are many national organizations that participate in ACT-AD.

Oxidation is also a symptom of aging and oxidation occurs throughout the body. Oxidation is caused by free radicals that build up in the body and cause instability. Wrinkles, sagging skin and dark spots are all symptoms of oxidation though oxidation does occur in other areas of the body. The cosmetic industry puts a lot of money into reversing the affects of oxidation. Recently there has been a lot of advancement in ways to combat oxidation in the skin.

Your weight and age has also found to have direct links. Those that are obese or overweight when they are young have a much greater chance of developing diabetes and heart disease. The benefits of being healthy and maintaining a healthy weight has been found to be even more important as you age.

Simple Processes

No matter how simple the process adapted, it must still adhere to the scientific method. This way, your child can be involved from the first to the last step of the scientific process that, in turn, will make him better prepared to present the results of his study.

Keep in mind, however, that the scientific process is not a set of rigid rules. You can be more flexible with the process but within limits since objective observations and results must be made. After all, 5th grade science fair projects are supposed to be fun – not rigid – and easy.

For example, in an experiment where the growth of Venus flytraps are studied, the process can be simplified by confining the variables to just a few number, the hypothesis to just one, and the data collection period to just a few days’ time. Thus, only the variable of types of feed is changed, only one hypothesis is made in that the one fed the crickets will grow the fastest because of the protein content, and the period is limited to just 2 weeks instead of 3 weeks.

With 5th grade science fair projects, you can encourage your child to seek more answers to his questions simply because the materials and equipment used are easy to use and the processes adopted are easy to follow

gingivitis treatment

For obvious cosmetic reasons you need to work on getting this disease reversed. But you also have many other reasons to do this and they are highly important. Some believe that gum recession is a normal part of getting older.  I believe that it does not have to be that way. Many people have not developed the proper understanding of this disease and what it really is.

Did you know that gum disease is caused by bacteria that are attack the tissue in your mouth? If not, you do now, and that’s what will lead to possible loss of teeth, or more medical problems. Gingival disease has been linked to causing heart disease, and even respiratory disease.

But too it is shown to cause low birth weights in infants who’s mothers have smoked during pregnancy.

So now you know why you should focus on how to reverse gum disease, it’s about so much more than just teeth. It could be your life that you are cutting short by not getting that gum disease taken care of. As the bacteria continue to grow the gums will begin pulling away from the teeth. One item that could be helpful are therabreath mouthwashes.

That will be after you’ve notice that when you brush or floss you will cause the gums to bleed. It’s best to head into the dentist at that point. In addition, you could try a dental water jet.

Your gums will no longer have the healthy pink look they should. They will most likely be swollen and maybe tender. But your teeth could be at risk for falling out too. So protect not only your gums, and teeth, but also your life.

Why is it Important to Stop Gum Disease?

gum disease treatment

You may wonder why it is important to end periodontal disease. But besides your teeth starting to look bad, and your gums bleeding there is much more to it than that. It can be linked to many different medical problems too.

When you first notice that brushing or flossing is causing your gums to bleed you should realize something is wrong. This is the first hint you will have that you are in the beginning stages of gingivitis. This is a good time to think about thera breath products. Getting to see your dentist immediately should be what you do, and then you should begin brushing and flossing more often.

It’s recommended that you brush at least two times a day, and that you brush continuously for three minutes. But after you eat something that is full of sugar, or drink a soda, you should also brush your teeth at that time. You could also utilize a hydro floss. It seems a bit redundant to brush too many times, doesn’t it?

Researchers believe that this problem can lead to such serious problems as heart disease, strokes, respiratory problems, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Plus you could lose teeth and your overall appearance may not be as appealing.

You’ve seen people who’ve had advanced stages of gum disease, and how their teeth look. If you don’t stop your gum disease when you can that’s what you have to look forward too. Besides that the bacteria that is eating away at your gums and teeth can enter your blood and travel to other parts of the body.

Don’t let this disease side line you with a stroke just because you’re too worried about going to the dentist. Get that problem taken care of when you first notice that your gums are no longer the healthy pink they should be. When you see puffiness in your gums, or notice that they are pulling away from your teeth, take immediate action.

Scott Wells recommends the book: What You Should Know about Gum Disease for those seeking more information on this topic. ISBN: 978-0981485508

It’s recommended that you brush at least two times a day, and that you brush continuously for three minutes. But after you eat something that is full of sugar, or drink a soda, you should also irrigate your mouth at that time.

But be warned, brushing and flossing alone may not be enough. You should educate yourself on what else you can do at home to help stop or prevent this disease!

Researchers believe that this problem can lead to such serious problems as heart disease, strokes, respiratory problems, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Plus you will couldose teeth and your overall appearance may not be as appealing.
